Maintenance

Similar to all constructions exposed to outdoor conditions, wooden frames need appropriate protection. This difficult task is carried by modern water-soluble varnishes for wooden, outdoor windows and doors.

These increased demands begin from the raw material, timber. Despite its undisputable advantages as a raw material for various kinds of constructions (thermal and sound insulation, easy processing, flexibility, durability, friendly for the environment, aesthetics etc.) there are some undesirable characteristics stemming from the fact that it is a product from biological processes and not artificially created, which attributes can be identified beforehand, during its production.

One of the attributes we try to check is its deliquescence. It is about wood’s property of absorbing or expelling moisture, increasing or reducing its size respectively, always in dependence of the atmospheric conditions to which it is exposed. Also we are trying to reduce the chance of wood being infected with fungi, insects or other microorganisms. In order to cope with the above-said probabilities we impregnate the wood, after its drying is complete of course, so that its humidity ranges from 10% to 12%. Modern water-soluble impregnation materials offer excellent protection against blue stain and rot fungi while on the same time reduce moisture absorption even in sensitive areas of the wood.

In that way unwanted changes to the volume because of moisture are minimized. After the impregnation, primers and final paints are applied. These products offer wooden windows additional protection from outdoor conditions, like extreme temperature and humidity changes, ultraviolet rays etc.

Modern varnishes for outdoor windows cope successfully with the demands for top quality products, offering the following advantages:

  • Flexibility, ranging in high levels both for primers and finishing paints. Because of their flexibility these products keep on offering protection to the wood not only in cases of volume fluctuation but even in the event of mechanical stress (percussion). Varnish does not “break”, the protecting film of varnish remains intact.
  • Infiltration and adhesion to the structure of the wood.
  • Uniform coverage of porous and creation of a uniform surface that prevents moisture from penetrating the wood’s mass.
  • Permeable towards vapors, so that moisture from the inside can be expelled to the environment.

All these products meet the highest quality standards while they are tested according the more demanding health and environment regulations.

In the end, we must not forget the maintenance kits that varnish producers offer. These are sets consisting of a liquid cleanser and an emulsion. Their application is very simple and takes only a few minutes, while the benefit of their use is great: the wooden product is protected and maintains its freshness for many years.
