Sound insulation
Wood presents some very good sound-insulating properties lacking in other materials. Because of its cellular structure, its mass includes a significant percentage of vacant spaces, each one of which traps sound and reduces reverberation. This fact makes wood an excellent material for window frames, considering the city noises and the need for a calm and quiet atmosphere in our house.
Today special sound-proof doors are produced in the form of one-piece constructions consisting of successive layers of wooden panes intermittent with sound-insulating cores that reduce noise levels to a minimum. Regarding the construction of windows, double layered glazing or multilayered glazing with internal gaps, glass panes of larger width and complex glass panes consisting of successive layers of glass and acoustic membranes are utilized in the production of wooden framed windows with significantly increased sound-insulating capability.
